Which paddock post fits my fence system?

Paddock posts are crucial to building an effective pasture fence for several reasons:

  • Stability and structure: Paddock posts form the basic structure of the fence. They provide stability and anchoring so that the fence remains upright even under strong pressure, whether from animals, wind or other influences. Without posts, the fence would be unstable and could easily collapse.
  • Visibility and deterrence: The posts also serve as a visible barrier for livestock and other animals. Their height and colour help stop animals from climbing over the fence. Most pasture fence posts are available in different colours like to increase visibility.
  • Power line routing: Electrical lines are used in many pasture fences to achieve better herding security. The posts act as supports for these lines and hold them securely above the ground. This allows the targeted delivery of electrical impulses to deter livestock without seriously injuring them.
  • Durability: Pasture fence posts are often made of materials such as wood, plastic or metal, which are weather-resistant and durable. This keeps the fence functional for a longer period of time and requires less maintenance.
  • Flexibility: Different types of fence posts can be selected depending on the requirements and conditions on site. There are different lengths, diameters and materials that can be adapted to specific needs.
So, in summary, paddock posts are indispensable elements of a pasture fence as they ensure the structure, stability, visibility, electrical function and durability of the fence. They play a fundamental role in securing and maintaining animals and grazing areas.

Posts for permanent fences
Permanent fence posts are specially designed for long-term and permanent fence installations. Usually wooden or recycled posts are used here. In this case, fence construction is somewhat more labour-intensive, but the fence remains stable for much longer and requires little maintenance. With permanent fences, cross planks made from the material of the posts can also be installed, which makes the fence even more stable and increases visibility for the animals immensely.

Posts for semi-permanent fences
Semi-permanent fences can be built with just one person and the right tools - yet they stand robustly for many years and require hardly any maintenance due to the stable materials used! The durable T-posts made of rail steel are the epitome of semi-permanent fences.

Posts for mobile fencing
Mobile fence posts are lightweight, portable and flexible. They offer the ideal solution for pasture areas that are frequently changed. These posts are often made of plastic, spring steel or fibreglass and are easy to set up. Mobile fences are practical for temporary grazing areas or to support portion or rotational grazing.

Corner and gate posts
The greatest possible tensile forces act at corners and gates in the pasture fence, which is why particularly robust posts must be used here: these are longer than the section posts and/or have a larger diameter and are anchored deeper in the ground. If the corners or start and end points of the fence course at the gate are not built strong enough, the post will sooner or later tilt and thus destabilise the entire fence system. Especially in the case of mobile or semi-permanent fences, it is recommended to at least set the corners and gates with a wooden or recycled post in order to improve the fence as a whole and to achieve guard security.
